Leslieville & Riverdale

Riverdale is a thriving residential neighbourhood in Toronto, located just east of the downtown. Riverdale itself covers a much wider area and includes many smaller neighbourhoods such as the Danforth, Riverside and Studio District. The Danforth, also commonly referred to as Greek Town, has a high concentration of fabulous Greek restaurants and the close proximity to Bloor subway line makes it very appealing. Riverside has developed a stature as a neighbourhood of independent arts, with several independent galleries located along Queen Street East. It is commonly referred to now as an up-and-coming neighbourhood where a more affluent and wealthy character is seen in the bistros and coffee shops located along Queen Street East.

Leslieville began as a small village in the 1850s, which grew up around the Toronto Nurseries owned by George Leslie and sons, after whom the community is named. Its quaint stores, cozy houses, and tree lined streets, seem surprisingly peaceful and serene considering the neighbourhood’s close proximity to downtown Toronto. Queen and Carlaw has become an arts hub, with many artists choosing to run their studios from the various work-live lofts. Leslieville is a neighbourhood in which the process of gentrification is beginning with condo, loft and townhome development.
